Welcome Young Artists!
Together we will have fun exploring watercolor painting and different painting style. Together with your incredible talents and imagination these styles or techniques will help you paint wonderful works of art.
Your art kits include a watercolor paint set, extra brush, some cups for water, both water color paper and regular paper, etc.
It is very important that we are very careful with the paints. We do not want to get it on furniture or your clothes, and we certainly do not want to spill any water.
So, let's prepare our desks by draping the big piece of paper you have received over your desk surface. This will prevent any paint accidentally hitting furniture. When we are finished today, make sure you fold the piece of paper back up so we can use it next time we meet again.
If we do not already have water in our plastic cup, we should now get some water. Just fill the cup half way. You can also fill two cups if you like. We will use this water to "wet" the brush and paint.
Next, lets grab out watercolor paint set. We may need to get rid of the packaging, if we have not already done so.
Just a couple of tips to get started:
- Watercolors dry lighter, meaning once your painting strokes have dried the color will appear lighter, compared to wet paint.
- Don't use too much water. You want to make sure you get plenty of "paint" on your brush.
The pdf below called "
Introduction to Watercolors" has more information for you.
Let's put down one of the thinner regular pieces of paper to get started with Lesson 1.
